Kris Money was born in Scarborough, where he vividly recalls falling in love with music on a Sunday watching his father play records.  Kris experienced a volatile childhood and adolescence, as his father was notorious for philandering, and left Kris’s mother to raise him in the projects. His mother always believed in the right way, and wanted to raise him as if he did have a father, so he would not miss out on anything. But because of their situation their family struggled, and Kris’s mother was hard pressed to raise him and his older sister. In his early years Kris took an interest in football, and basketball. He was talked about strongly in these sports until he was unable to pursue them due to his family’s financial circumstances. His mother insisted he attend a school that did not have as many black students, so he would “keep out of trouble”. Unfortunately, because of this Kris always felt that, despite being popular (especially with women), he could never completely fit in.  When he finally moved to another school across town, he developed an enviable reputation by his athletic talents and his charm with the girls. Shortly after his change in schools his family was able to move out of the violent project surrounding they were so greatly affected by. During this period he began to break away from sports and started to demonstrate a talent and passion for hip-hop. Kris Money’s attachment to his hood helps him to never forget where he came from and keeps him focused on where he wants to go. His ability to persevere in the competitive global music industry will undoubtedly be attributed to his difficult upbringing, in which he was never handed anything. Furthermore, all the success he has had so far in his life can be attributed to his hard work.
